Six Ideas For A Fun Staycation
As we get closer to summer, many people are starting to plan their vacations. However, going on vacation isn’t always an option, and that’s okay! Sometimes all we need is a good old staycation. Staying close to home doesn’t need to be boring. Here are some ideas to get you started with planning your very own staycation.
Go somewhere you’ve never been
You likely haven’t seen all there is to see in your city. Use your staycation to explore and get to know your town better. Is there a museum you’ve been dying to visit but haven’t had a chance? Is there a restaurant you haven’t been to or a place that just opened? Create a list of places and attractions across town that you haven’t been to and go from there.
Enjoy an at-home spa day
Temporarily turn your home into a relaxing spa retreat. Gather the family or a few friends for some pampering and time to refresh. Turn the kitchen table into a manicure and pedicure station. A bedroom can become a relaxation room. Give your skin a break with a mask or DIY facial. Just sit back, relax and enjoy a break from your busy schedule.
Plan outdoor excursions
Take advantage of nice weather and get outside. Take the kids to local playgrounds and to the park to play games. Plan a picnic for a sunny day or make s’mores in the back yard in the evenings. If you live near a state park, spend a day exploring. And, if you are feeling adventurous, plan a hike along a new trail or go for a long bike ride. There are so many things to do outside during the summertime and there are options for everyone.
Host a cookout
Be sure to include plans for some food and fun during your staycation. Invite friends and family over for a cookout or hold a potluck at a local park. Have your guests bring a side or dessert to share for a diverse spread. Enjoy having the time to catch up with loved ones. In addition to food, have a stack of cards or board games ready for some additional entertainment.
Go to state and county fairs
During the summer season, there are plenty of fairs, big and small, happening across the country. Search online to see when your local and state fairs are. Treat the family to a day of games, rides and special fair food. There are often unique attractions, so enjoy getting to experience something new.
Have a movie marathon
Sometimes the weather doesn’t want to cooperate, or maybe it’s just one of those days where you want to stay in. Have a cozy day indoors with a movie marathon. Get started by going through your DVD collection or finding movies to stream from your Netflix list. You could even have a theme. Just gather family or friends and some popcorn, and you’ll be all set!
